Chisinau, July 19. /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will benefit from international expertise in the management of strategic infrastructure projects, following the opening in Chisinau of a representative office of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The cabinet approved today the initiation of negotiations and the approval of the signing of the Agreement concluded through the exchange of letters, between the Government of Moldova and UNOPS.
The project aims to open the UNOPS Country Office in the Republic of Moldova based on the resolution of the UN General Assembly, as well as to establish conditions similar to those for United Nations officials on persons providing services or activities, properties, funds and assets of UNOPS.
Due to UNOPS, it will be possible to mobilize financial and technical resources through partnerships with international donors and the private sector, as well as benefit from international expertise in the strategic infrastructure project management. This will increase investments and resources needed for projects, favoring economic growth by reducing development gaps between regions, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) pointed out.
UNOPS is an operational structure of the UN, mainly responsible for the implementation of projects for the UN system, international financial institutions, governments and other partners.
