Moldova denounces Convention on Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Commonwealth of Independent States

Chisinau, 20 July /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament today voted for the denunciation of the Convention on the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS IPA), adopted on 26 May 1996 and of an agreement concluded on the CIS platform.
The proposes to denounce the Convention on the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States belongs to Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, who says that ‘’Moldova no longer resonates with the current policies, goals and decisions of CIS IPA.’’ At the same time, the country maintains inter-parliamentary relations with the CIS IPA at the bilateral level, including between friendship groups.
According to the legislative body, in the political context in the region, since the beginning of this year, the parliament’s leadership has not approved any participation in events of CIS IPA. Moldova in 2023 was to pay a membership due worth 5.8 million lei (290,000 euros). The denunciation of the convention will not affect Moldova’s rights and obligations in the relation with other parties to the treaty and with the third parties.
Also today, the parliament voted, in the second reading, the denunciation of the agreement on the interaction in the field of prevention and liquidation of the consequences of emergency situations with natural and technogeneous character, signed in Minsk in January 1993, with the amendments made under the Protocol compiled in Dushanbe in October 2015.
Fifty three lawmakers backed the drafts.
