Rescuers, firemen of Moldova carry out over 10,000 missions, save lives of about 600 people in first half of 2023

Chisinau, 22 July /MOLDPRES/ - Rescuers and firemen were involved in more than 10,000 missions in the first six months of this year. As a result, 565 people were saved. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) has unveiled figures to this effect at a meeting on summing up the activities carried out in the first half of 2023.
More exactly, 3,781 interventions on extinguishing fires, 2,008 search and rescuer interventions, 4,250 auxiliary interventions, eight SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) missions and an international mission for liquidating the consequences of the earthquake in Turkey have been carried out since early 2023.
According to reports, in the first half of this year, 32,220 emergency calls were recorded, with the intervention of rescuers and firemen demanded in 11,751 cases. In terms of the geographical location, most emergency calls come from the Chisinau city (28.1 per cent) and Balti (9.9 per cent).
The average response time of IGSU’s intervention subdivisions to the emergency calls was 17 minutes and 34 seconds.
