Chisinau, July 25. /MOLDPRES/- The budget of the program Addressing the impacts of the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova was supplemented by three million euros. The money was earmarked for the development of two pilot initiatives aimed at promoting energy-saving practices and technologies, especially in vulnerable households.
According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), it is about the initiatives Rabla for household appliances, to replace old energy-inefficient appliances and Green Home, which will support more than 100 family-type children's homes in carrying out energy efficiency measures and installing biomass boilers and photovoltaic panels.
The expansion of the budget will allow the number of beneficiaries of the two programs to increase. Thus, the Rabla for household appliances program aims to reach up to 50 thousand households, and Green Home targets up to 250 households.
"With a total budget of 13 million euros allocated by the European Union, the program Addressing the impacts of the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova, implemented by UNDP, contributes to the fight against climate change by reducing the impact of the energy crisis and alleviating the burden of energy poverty. The buildings sector, both public and residential, mostly built according to outdated standards, is responsible for about 50% of the final energy consumption in the Republic of Moldova and has a great potential for improving energy efficiency", a UNDP press release reads.
The program also finances the installation of photovoltaic panels in households and five hospitals, as well as the change of central heating systems in four blocks to much more efficient horizontal distribution systems.
