Ministry of Culture requests General Prosecutor's Office to investigate destruction of historical monuments

Chisinau, July 25. /MOLDPRES/- The Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments has published an activity report, following numerous reports regarding the illegal demolition of historical monument buildings. Ministry of Culture notified the General Prosecutor's Office and requests the creation of an investigation group specialized "in crimes aimed at the destruction of historical monuments".
Many cases of the demolition of monuments and the construction of new edifices have been recorded. Based on the findings of these serious legislative violations, requests were sent to the General Prosecutor's Office. The report of the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments provides a list of documents drawn up for 2022 - 2023, including addresses to the Prosecutor's Office. The agency also found that during 2018 – 2021, no appeal was submitted regarding the demolition of the monuments.
Based on the report of the Agency, the Ministry of Culture appealed to interim Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova Ion Munteanu with the request to take control of the situation, with the instrumentation of the files for the demolition of the monuments.
