Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - Russia’s Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov today commented on the decision to limit the number of Russian diplomats accredited in Moldova.
The official made specifications, after he had been today summoned at the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), in order to be asked for explanations on Russia’s actions of espionage in Moldova.
„This scandal on the ‘’espionage actions’’ is a motive for cutting the number of diplomats. We were announced about a decision to this effect today. This fact will negatively influence the dialogue between the two countries. The decision does not fit the friendship relations. It was expected, but I did not believe that it would be taken so quickly. These are radical measures. I think that the officials who have taken such decisions understand which might be the consequences in the bilateral relations,’’ Oleg Vasnetsov said.
The international publication, The Insider, and a TV station of Moldova published a journalism investigation on the existence of a system of reception on the roof of Russia’s Embassy in Chisinau. At the same time, more people were showed who would be involved in espionage actions in Moldova. Following the information which appeared, Russia’s Ambassador was summoned at MAEIE. At the same time, Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, at a today’s cabinet meeting, informed that Moldova would cut the number of Russian diplomats accredited in Chisinau.
