DOC Decision on proposal to extend emergency state in Moldova published in Official Journal. PM goes to parliament

Chisinau, 26 July /MOLDPRES/ - The decision approved by the government today on the proposal to extend the emergency state has been published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial). Prime Minister Dorin Recean will go to parliament, in order to reason the decision on the prolongation of the state of emergency. The spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, made statements to this effect following the cabinet meeting.
„The need of extending the emergency state is prompted by the risks to which Moldova is subjected in continuation and aspects regarding the national security,’’ Daniel Voda said.
„The government today proposed the prolongation of the emergency state by another 60 days. Respectively, starting from 3 August, the state of emergency might be prolonged by another two months. Today morning, the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) convened at a meeting. The Interior Ministry was the rapporteur, which brought the arguments necessary. The need to extend the emergency state is promoted by the risks to which Moldova is further subjected and aspects which concern the national security, including by the accidental overflight of the air space with drones and missiles, as well as the continuation of the aggression against the neighbour state. And we, being at the border, need leverages necessary, in order to be able to ensure the country’s peace, public and energy security. After the decision was approved at the cabinet meeting, the prime minister is to go to parliament, where he will give a speech to reason the need to prolong the emergency state. We will inform the public opinion about the date when the PM will go to parliament,’’ Daniel Voda noted.
Last time, the emergency state was extended in Moldova starting from 4 June this year. The state of emergency was established in Moldova on 24 February 2022, when the war in Ukraine started.
