Over 50 localities cut off power due to heavy rain, strong wind

Chisinau, July 27. /MOLDPRES/- Over 50 localities in 10 districts of the country are cut off power due to heavy rain and strong wind of the last few days.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), following the bad weather, the most damage was recorded in Edineț, Soroca, Dondușeni, Râșcani and Drochia districts. In Edineț district, Terebna locality, the roofs of 30 houses were damaged, and in Cupcini, due to the strong wind, the roofs of several blocks of flats, the art school, the kindergarten and the gymnasium were damaged. In other localities of Edineț district, such as Brânzeni, Chetroșica, Blesteni, Burlănești, Ruseni, following the storm, the roofs of several buildings were damaged, including gymnasiums, kindergartens, warehouses, town halls and cultural centers.

Currently, the territorial Commissions for Emergency Situations, convened for the assessment of material damages, continue to work on the spot.

Following the heavy rains in the north and center of the country, in the last 24 hours the teams of rescuers and firefighters of the IGSU intervened in 43 cases to liquidate the consequences, clearing works of branches, trees fallen on the roadway, pumping water, as well as removing objects with a risk of falling. The missions were carried out in the following districts: Edineț, Râșcani, Soroca, Sângerei, Dondușeni, Drochia, Anenii Noi, Cantemir, Hâncești, Criuleni, Florești, Nisporeni, Fălești, as well as in the municipalities of Balti and Chisinau.
