Chisinau, 27 July /MOLDPRES/ - The Tverskoy Court from the Moscow city has sentenced, in absence, Veaceslav Platon to 20 years of imprisonment. He was found guilty of illegal withdrawal of money from Russia, amounting to more than 126 billion roubles, MOLDPRES informs, citing the TASS news agency.
„The Tverskoy Court from the Moscow issued a ruling in a criminal file on Veaceslav Platon, founding him guilty of the committing of the offences: creation of a criminal community and carrying out of transactions of funds in foreign currency to accounts of non-residents, with the use of forged documents. In agreement with the position of the state prosecutor, the court found Platon guilty of the committing of these offences and sentenced him to 20 years of imprisonment in a strict regime prison colony, with a fine of 2.5 billion roubles and a restriction of freedom for a period of one year and six months,’’ the ruling reads.
Thus, the court found out that, in June 2013, in Moscow and Chisinau, Platon, the real owner of the Moldindconbank stock company, along with the former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vladimir Plahotniuc, and Alexander Corkin, would have set up a criminal organization with the purpose of illegal purloining of funds in currency from Russia. Starting from June 2013 till May 2014, the members of this crime ring would have made currency operations, in order to transfer funds in foreign currency from accounts of Russian banks to bank accounts of non-residents of Moldindconbank. At the same time, the documents which contained false information on the reasons, purposes and destination of the transfers were delivered to credit organizations from Russia. The overall sum of transactions exceeded 126 billion roubles.
At the same time, under the court’s ruling, the assets of Platon were confiscated. The case was considered in absence, as Veaceslav Platon is on an international wanted list.
In Moldova, Veaceslav Platon in 2017 was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment in the bank fraud file. In June 2020, the businessman was set free, after former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo had said that the file would have been forged. Subsequently, prosecutors gave up all charges against Veaceslav Platon and he was discharged.
