Moldova to get 220 million dollars from U.S. for energy projects

Chisinau, July 31. /MOLDPRES/- U.S. government will offer a grant worth 220 million dollars to Moldova for the implementation of investment projects in the energy sector. Deputies ratified today the 15th Amendment of the agreement on assistance concerning the development goal between the governments of Moldova and the United States of America for sustainable economic growth anchored in European integration.
According to the document, the U.S. Government will allocate an additional financial contribution worth 220 million dollars. The money will be granted to strengthen our country's energy security and reduce dependence on the Russian Federation by connecting the energy sector of the Republic of Moldova with European systems, attracting investments in local energy production, diversifying natural gas supply and increasing energy efficiency.
The total financing under the agreement will exceed 392 million dollars, which is non-reimbursable assistance provided to our country.
The agreement also establishes the conditions for granting by the U.S. Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), budgetary support in the amount of 76.8 million dollars.
