Chisinau, 2 Aug. /MOLDPRES/- The Association of Judges of Moldova came today with a reaction following the decisions taken by the Supreme Court of Justice to re-evaluate some candidates for the position of member of the CSP and CSM, as well as the criticisms.
In a post on the Association's website, its members emphasized the importance of strengthening the independence of the judicial system and emphasized "that political influences do not take place in the justice sector."
“In a functioning democracy, the judiciary must be completely independent and operate without any political or external interference. This is an essential condition for ensuring fair, impartial and fair justice for all citizens. In this context, the Association of Judges reaffirms firm commitment to the principles of the rule of law and to ensuring that the judiciary remains free from political influences. We support a judicial reform process that strengthens the independence of the courts and promotes the professional integrity of judges and prosecutors. The recent decisions of the Supreme Court of Justice must be analyzed within the framework of the law and legal procedures, without jumping to conclusions or generating unwarranted suspicions. We firmly believe that each case must be treated individually," the message says.
Regarding the "pre-vetting"/"vetting" process, the Association of Judges said that it must be carried out in a transparent, fair and respectful way towards the fundamental rights of the evaluated persons.
Yesterday, the Civil, Commercial and Administrative Litigation College of the Supreme Court of Justice decided that several candidates for membership in the CSP and CSM will be reevaluated. These decisions generated a wave of criticism from several politicians.
