Moldovan PM's message on first president's death

Chisinau, 14 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- First president of the Republic of Moldova Mircea Snegur was a devoted statesman, a true architect of our independence and a promoter of the Romanian language. The message was sent by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who expressed sincere condolences on the death of the first head of state, Mircea Snegur.

"We remember with gratitude your courage with which he marked our path to a better future. My sincere condolences to his family and close friends. With pain in our hearts, we say goodbye to the first president of our country, and we continue to build an independent Moldova - stronger, more prosperous and more united", Recean said.

President Maia Sandu announced today that September 16 will be declared a day of national mourning, in commemoration of the first head of state, Mircea Snegur.

The first president of the Republic of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, died on Wednesday evening at 83 years old.
