Day of 16 September declares national mourning day, on funerals of first President of Moldova Mircea Snegur

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has signed a decree on the declaring of the day of 16 September 2023 as national mourning day, as a token of deep grief caused by the death of the first president of Moldova, Mircea Snegur, an active supporter of the national revival movement, official who played an essential role in the promotion of the independence, freedom and sovereignty of the country, the presidential press service reported.
On this day, the State Flag of Moldova will be raised half-mast in all settlements of Moldova, as well as in the diplomatic and consular missions of Moldova from abroad. At 12:00, the memory of President Mircea Snegur will be honoured by standing silent for one minute.
The public authorities, enterprises and organizations are recommended to give up the carrying out of mass entertainment actions and the media institutions should take into account the specific of the day while editing publications and creating programmes.
Also on this day, the national public provider of media services, Teleradio-Moldova Company will broadcast live the funerals. Media representatives have access to the Birth of God Metropolitan Cathedral on 15 September starting from 19:30. On the funerals’ day, mass media representatives do not need accreditation; yet, because of the special security measures, they are asked to wear media identification cards on them.
