Moldovan president meets UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador

Chisinau, 18 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu met with UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Kristin Davis, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu discussed with Kristin about the work to help refugees from different countries, the ways how the attention of the international community and the international media can be better drawn to the needs of refugees, and mobilize more actions of support and humanitarian assistance.
"We also talked about how our country is affected by the consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine, how we dealt with the humanitarian crisis at the beginning of the invasion, the aid and protection measures for refugees taken by the Government and, above all, about citizens, who have helped and continue to help Ukrainian refugees with an open heart," said Maia Sandu.
Together with Kristin Davis, the head of state was at the 151 Community Center, where women from Ukraine told them about the dramas experienced in their native country, how they lost their loved ones and had to leave all the agony, to save themselves and their children from the path of war.
"They also told us about their life in Moldova and how much they want to return home, to Odesa, Mykolayiv, or Kherson. I told them that they are particularly strong people, that the resistance and courage of the Ukrainian people inspire us, and that we have peace in Moldova also thanks to them", the president pointed out.
