Chisinau, 18 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Six employees of the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) were detained for 72 hours, suspected of charging illegal payments from various economic agents for facilitating the transit of goods. The arrests took place after this morning the law enforcement officers searched the Border Inspection Post (PIF) Otaci of ANSA as part of cases initiated on passive corruption.
According to the investigations of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), PIF Otaci employees allegedly demanded and accepted sums of money, in different currencies, from transporters of animal and vegetable products in order not to subject them to sanitary-veterinary checks. Thus, they would have avoided the control over compliance with the sanitary-veterinary rules, the requirements regarding food safety and their quality in the process of importing fresh meat, dairy products, confectionery products, as well as other goods, subject to sanitary-veterinary supervision.
Following the searches carried out at the PIF Otaci headquarters of ANSA, at the homes and cars of the six suspects, the CNA officers seized 35,000 lei, 8,000 hryvnias, mobile phones and records of imported goods.
Criminal prosecution actions are currently taking place to investigate the case.
