Moldovan state in 2023 to allocate 25 million lei for improving sanitary conditions in schools

Chisinau, 19 September /MOLDPRES/ - Twenty five million lei (1.25 million euros) has been allocated from the state budget for the 2023 year, in order to create or renovate sanitary units at education institutions from Moldova. Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun made statements to this effect at a news conference today.
According to the minister, a contest of selection of files was organized, which were submitted education institutions or local public authorities. ‘’Following this contest, 25 schools from 14 schools were selected, which till the end of this school will benefit from financings of projects on renovation, reconstruction or rehabilitation of sanitary units in the education institutions from Moldova – primary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums,’’ Dan Perciun said.
„At the same time, the Education Ministry will resort to the assistance of development partners, in order to contribute to the settlement of these vital problems, for providing pupils with decent conditions for education, in line with the century in which we live,’’ the official said, emphasizing, in the context, the generous support of the World Bank of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
According to the official, 140 million lei is scheduled to be earmarked in 2024, in order to continue the process of ensuring the conditions regarding the water, hygiene and sanitation in the general education institutions.
The authorities are set for the conditions for the pupils from Moldova to be improved through the renovation of sanitary units each year. The Education and Research Ministry will annually inform about a contest for financing projects on renovation, reconstruction and rehabilitation of sanitary units in the education institutions from Moldova. The files will be submitted by the education institutions or, as case may be, by local public authorities, according to a regulation on the organization and carrying out of the contest, approved by the government in last May.
According to the Education and Research Ministry, about 300 schools have sanitary units placed outdoors out of those over 1,200 public and private primary schools, gymnasiums and lyceums and over 50 schools have no access to drinking water.
