Moldovan deputy premier has several bilateral and multilateral meetings at UN

Chisinau, 20 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- On the first day of the UN General Assembly, the head of Moldovan diplomacy, Nicu Popescu, had bilateral and multilateral meetings, the MAEIE press service has reported.
The Moldovan team joins the opening of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Officials will discuss the impact of Russia's war against Ukraine on the region, highlighting our contribution to European stability. Our reform agenda will be present, which firmly guides us towards the opening of accession negotiations with the EU.
In New York, Popescu had constructive discussions with Mariya Gabriel, deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs of Bulgaria. The officials highlighted the high level of friendship between the Republic of Moldova and Bulgaria, and noted boosting and deepening the political-diplomatic dialogue. In this context, they agreed on the consolidation of economic cooperation and the development of a collaboration in the education and culture, especially considering the presence of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of Moldova.
"I also thanked Bulgaria for its political support in advancing the European path of the Republic of Moldova and expressed confidence that the authorities in Sofia will also support us in starting the EU accession negotiations by the end of this year", the Moldovan official said.
Popescu had a meeting with representatives of Jewish organizations in the USA, under the auspices of the American Jewish Committee. He addressed issues of common interest, such as the policies regarding the promotion of Holocaust memory in our country.
He met with Yuri Kim, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs. The Moldovan diplomat expressed his gratitude for the continuous support that the USA gives to the Republic of Moldova in terms of democratic development, regional security and the strengthening of bilateral relations.
"We also discussed the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the importance of the support offered by the USA in carrying out the necessary reforms to achieve this national goal. I highlighted our significant progress, including those related to the implementation of the nine recommendations of the European Commission, and I emphasized the Government's firm commitment to continue these efforts for the benefit of Moldovan citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova and the State Department of the United States of America are committed to maintaining open communication and strong collaboration to promote common goals in the international relations and good governance," said Popescu.
In the discussion with journalist Josh Rogin, the Moldovan official referred to the country's progress in the last year, the excellent relations with the USA, and the challenges facing the Republic of Moldova.
