Electronic voting system to be set in local, district, municipal councils

Chisinau, 21 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Electronic voting system will be established in local, district and municipal councils. A draft law was approved today by the Parliament in the first reading with 58 votes.

The legislative initiative belongs to the deputies of the Action and Solidarity Party, Victor Spînu and Alina Dandara. According to the authors, it will increase transparency in the decision-making process at the local level and will streamline the voting procedure in local, district and municipal councils.

The document stipulates that each councilor will be assigned a means of authentication in the electronic voting system to vote on the decisions. Electronic voting means will be used in local council meetings to check the quorum, cast the vote and tally the voting results.

The draft sees that local council meetings can be broadcast live on national public radio and television stations and on the official website of the local public authority. 

The draft law is to be consulted with the representatives of local public authorities and those of civil society and, subsequently, proposed for approval in the second reading.
