Moldovan MP stripped off parliamentary immunity

Chisinau, 21 September /MOLDPRES/ - MP Irina Lozovan has been stripped off parliamentary immunity. The lawmakers today approved those two applications submitted by acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu to this end. The decision was backed by 58 MPs.
The applications regard the agreement for the lifting of the parliamentary immunity, in order to detain, arrest, search and send to court two criminal files on lawmaker Irina Lozovan. According to acting Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu, the criminal files were opened on the fact of committing of deeds provided for in the Criminal Code, including the deliberate acceptance of the financing of the political party on behalf of an organized crime ring and money laundering in particularly large amounts.
The applications were considered in the absence of MP Irina Lozovan.
Under the parliament’s regulation, if the MP commits an offence or contravention, the prosecutor general can ask the legislative body to lift his/her immunity, in order to carry out procedural measures of detention, search, arrest or taking of legal action.
