PM presents economic growth for Moldova program

Chisinau, 25 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Dorin Recean today presented "Spor pentru Moldova" (Growth for Moldova) Program which amounts to 1.3 billion lei (65 million euros) and which will have a direct impact on 170 thousand people. The program involves budget corrections that would allow the salary increase of certain categories of employees, and supplementing resources allocated for areas such as agriculture, road repair and regional development.

"Last year was very difficult. Thanks to our partners, we managed to get through a difficult winter, compensating the expenses in the bills, and providing the necessary assistance in difficult times. This year is also quite a difficult year. We will continue to face economic difficulties and that is why the Government is coming to support citizens and economy. As difficult as it may be, the Government has identified additional resources with the help of friends in Europe, the US and international organizations, and we will have a well-designed program to provide assistance and increased incomes to many categories of the population and to be able to boost economic growth. Thus, the Government is coming up with a support package amounting to 1.3 billion lei which will have a direct impact on 170 thousand people", Recean said today.

He noted that the government will earmark an additional 352 million lei to cover heat and electricity expenses in schools, kindergartens, hospitals and other state institutions.

At the same time, a health support consisting of a 15 percent increase in the salaries of all doctors and nurses will be allocated. 48 thousand people will benefit from increases. Thus, the salary of a doctor will increase from 17,344 lei to 19,945 lei, said Recean.

The government will also grant an increase in education. Over 100 thousand people will get it. It assumes that all teachers will receive a one-off aid of five thousand lei, and 35 thousand people, non-teaching staff will receive three thousand lei.

Over 10 thousand employees of law enforcement institutions will get five thousand lei.

"We will also have support for theater people. All cultural institutions under the Ministry of Culture will have an average salary increase of 25 percent. We will have an increase for actors by 1,500 lei more per month, for directors, as well as employees of culture", he said.

Government will allocate an additional 100 million lei for road repair and maintenance and 300 million lei for regional development. Farmers will also benefit from additional resources.

Recean said that next week he will go to the Parliament to present the Program for approval.
