Lists of candidates for general local elections to be compiled with obserbance of quota of 40 per cent for both genders in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 September /MOLDPRES/ - The lists of candidates for the general local elections due on 5 November 2023 will be compiled with the observance of the quota of 40 per cent for both genders and the positioning of candidates on lists will be made according to the formula – at least four candidates for each 10 places.
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today warned the political parties and electoral blocs, which are set to participate in the general local polls, that the lists of candidates for the local, district and municipal councils must be drawn up with the observance of the minimal quota of representation of 40 per cent for both genders and the positioning of the of candidates on lists will be made according to the formula – at least four candidates for each ten places.
„The non-observance of the conditions entails the refusal of the registration of the lists of candidates by the electoral body,’’ CEC noted.
The period of registration of the candidates for the constituencies of the second level started on 19 September 2023 and the nomination of candidates for the first-level constituencies will start on 26 September. The registration of candidates for the first-level constituencies will begin on 29 September.
