Chisinau, 26 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu signed today a decree on release of Alexandr Stoianoglo from the position of prosecutor general, under the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) of May 23, 2022.
According to the presidential press service, "as the pronouncement of a decision by the courts on the finding of the legality of the dismissal of Alexandr Stoianoglo by the CSP is delayed, the signing of the decree comes in the context of the recommendations of the European Union to ensure the fulfillment of the position of Prosecutor General and the obligations of the Republic of Moldova to fulfill the conditions of the justice system".
On May 23 last year, the CSP members decided with the majority of votes to rate Alexandr Stoianolgo's activity as "unsatisfactory" and proposed to the Head of State his release from office.
According to the legislation, the performances of the general prosecutor are to be evaluated, and if he gets a failing grade, the CSP will propose his release from office.
