DOC Presidential decree on Alexandr Stoianoglo's release from office of prosecutor general published in Official Journal of Moldova

Chisinau, 27 Sep. /MOLDPRES/- Presidential decree on Alexandr Stoianoglo's release from office of prosecutor general was published in the Official Journal today.

President Maia Sandu signed the decreee yesterday under the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) of 23 May 2022.

The presidential institution noted "as the rendering of a decision by the courts on the finding the legality of Stoianoglo's release from office by the CSP is delayed, the signing of the decree comes in the context of the recommendations of the European Union to ensure the fulfillment of the position of Prosecutor General and the obligations of the Republic of Moldova to meet the conditions of the justice system".

On May 23 last year, the CSP members decided by majority vote to rate Stoianolgo's activity as "unsatisfactory" and proposed to the head of state his release from office.

Under the legislation, the general prosecutor's skills are to be assessed, and if he gets a failed grade, the CSP will propose his release from office.
