Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - Over 1,000 pupils, teachers and auxiliary staff employees of the Balti-based Dimitrie Cantemir Theoretical Lyceum have started a new year benefiting from improved education conditions and a comfortable working environment. The inauguration event was held in the context of the Days of the North Development Region, the ninth edition, organized in September-October.
„The schools and lyceums are the places where our children study and spend most of the time. We cannot talk about good results at the education, when pupils do not have good conditions for education. The projects on the improvement of the energy efficiency make the schools from Moldova more comfortable, warmer. Any sum of money spent for a lyceum is money invested in the future of our children,’’ Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu said.
According to Head of the European Union Delegation in Moldova Jānis Mažeiks, the recently renovated school benefits from energy efficiency measures, such as clean energy from solar panels, improved water supply and sewerage networks and a more efficient heating of the building. ‘’This will significantly reduce the institution’s consumption of energy and will improve the education environment for pupils,’’ Jānis Mažeiks said.
The Dimitrie Cantemir Theoretical Lyceum from the Balti city was renovated and underwent energy optimization following the carrying out of 11 investment measures. Thus, the outer cover the building was thermally insulated; a system of collection and drainage of rain waters, as well as a system of snow fence were set. The building was provided with renewable energy through the setting of 25 units of solar panels with an overall power of 10 kW. They will cover the lyceum’s consumption of electric energy equivalent with the consumption of energy for three months of the winter season. The lyceum’s rooms were endowed with ventilation and anti-fire systems, as well as sanitary inventory; a way of access was constructed for people with special needs; the institution’s kitchen was modernized and endowed with technical equipment. The works were carried out on the period December 2020 – August 2023.
Following the project’s implementation, the normed annual consumption of energy is expected to be cut by about 547 MWh (or 62 per cent) at the Balti-based Dimitrie Cantemir Theoretical Lyceum and the annual normed emissions of CO2 – by about 125 tons (or 62 per cent).
The overall value of the project, Enhancement of the efficiency of the Dimitrie Cantemir Theoretical Lyceum from the Balti city, is of about 24 million lei (1.2 million euros). Besides the agreement on financing, the Balti city hall contributed also with 4.6 million lei for the indoors rehabilitation of the education institution.
