Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - Ion Druta was Moldova’s messenger in the world, when the country’s culture and language were persecuted at their home. President Maia Sandu conveyed a message to this effect and submitted a message of condolences to the writer’s family.
The head of state stressed that the dramatist had fought for the Romanian language and Latin script ever since the 1960s. ‘’He described as nobody else the Moldovan village, the village dear to our hearts. Ion Druta brought, through his books, much love for the moral values of our nation, for the life and work of the peasants, for our living and rich language. We will re-read his books with love and we will watch his plays with much emotion from now on as well,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The official conveyed condolences to the family of Ion Druta, the readers and all those who knew the writer.
The prose writer, dramatist and essayist Ion Druta passed away at the age of 95 years. He was awarded more orders and medals; he holds the title of People’s Writer, honorary member of the Romanian Academy and titular member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences.
