Universities from Moldova might educate specialists in occupational therapy

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - A course of occupational therapy will be introduced in the university education of Moldova. This was the subject of an international conference organized on the platform of the parliamentary commission for social protection, health and family.     

The participants in the meeting discussed the enforcement of the occupational therapy at the rehabilitation of people with disabilities and the need of educating specialists to this end. The occupational therapy help people develop or recover certain abilities needed for the carrying out of daily activities. This type of therapy is focused on the needs of each beneficiary separately and its final goal is to contribute to the ensuring of an independent and as efficient as possible lifestyle.

„The occupational therapy comprises more fields – medicine, psychology, education. We are at the beginning of road and we must establish the direction and resources necessary, in order to set the occupational therapy specialty at the university level. It is necessary that we determine which would be the model which must be adopted for Moldova and it is case for us to take knowledge about the international experience. We will set up a working group for promoting the occupational therapy in Moldova on the platform of the commission for social protection, health and family,’’ a member of the aforementioned commission, Dorian Istratii, said.   

According to data unveiled by the Education and Research Ministry, at present, some master programmes at the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the State University of Physical Education and Sport include modules of ‘’occupational therapy.’’
