Moldovan parliament speaker, his counterparts discuss Moldova's European integration way in Dublin

Chisinau, 29 September /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, on a visit to Dublin to participate in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament, has had meetings with his counterparts from different countries. The officials discussed Moldova’s European integration way, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.  

Igor Grosu and Parliament Speaker of Finland Jussi Kristian Halla-Aho tackled the situation in the region, the challenges faced by Moldova and the reforms carried out by the country in key sectors, such as justice, economy, defence, energy. ‘’We are grateful that we can rely on the support of Finland in our European aspirations,’’ Igor Grosu said.   

In debates with the leaders parliament of the Netherlands, Bergkamp and Jan Anthonie Bruijn, the Moldovan parliament speaker discussed subjects on the parliament’s priorities, the good relations between the two countries, the process of accession to EU and the support provided by the Dutch partners in more sectors. ‘’I expressed gratitude for the fact that, in the last year alone, we have made important steps in deepening the relations – the foreign affairs ministries signed the protocol on the amendment of the bilateral convention, through the double taxation on the taxes on income and capital is avoided. On the next days, we will host a forum of business people from our countries in Chisinau. Also, in last April, the Dutch government opened an embassy in Chisinau. All these actions represent a strong signal of support and friendship,’’ Igor Grosu noted.   

In Dublin, Igor Grosu had a meeting with President of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium Eliane Tillieux, President of the Senate of this country Stephanie D’Hose. The officials discussed the consolidation of the relations between the two countries, cooperation in fields of common interest, as well as the opening of the Embassy of Belgium in Chisinau in September, which marks a new stage in the development of the bilateral relations. The parliament speaker said Moldova had made significant progress in the implementation of those nine recommendations of the European Commission. ‘’In 2024, Belgium will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and we rely on support on this important period for Moldova,’’ Igor Grosu said.     

The discussions with Deputy Parliament Speaker of Latvia Zanda Kalnina-Lukasevica and Vice President of Germany’s Bundestag Aydan Özoğuz were focused on Moldova’s European integration way and the parliamentary agenda. ‘’The 2023 year was quite important for Moldova from the viewpoint of the reforms in such sectors as justice, economy, energy, infrastructure and security. We are grateful for the continuous support of Latvia and Germany in the carrying out of these reforms, which will allow us follow the way of accession to EU and become more connected to Europe,’’ Igor Grosu’s message reads.       

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu on 28-29 September participated in the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament from the Council of Europe member states, held in Dublin. The meeting took place under the auspices of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and is held once in two years. Over 60 presidents and vice presidents of parliament from 46 Council of Europe countries, more than 400 delegates from the countries with status of partner or observer and heads of more parliamentary assemblies announced their participation in the current edition of the event.
