PHOTO National Wine Day inaugurated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 7 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Wine of Moldova today is celebrated in the centre of the Moldovan capital, where the 22nd edition of the National Wine Day started. The folk music and dances, traditional dishes and quality wine created a special atmosphere at the greatest holiday dedicated to the vine-growing and wine-making traditions and culture in Moldova.    

Attending the event’s inauguration, President Maia Sandu said that the slogan of the holiday from this year, Our Wine Conquers the World, showed one of the best news from Moldova. ‘’This day represents the proof of respect and support for this very old branch. I want to assure the country’s wine-makers of every support of the state’s institutions in the promotion of wines and image of Moldova as vine-growing and wine-making country,’’ the head of state said.     

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Vladimir Bolea stressed that the native vine-growing and wine-making sector continued to go the road of excellence. ‘’Today, we celebrate the revolutionary progress of the Wine of Moldova on the global stage. I congratulate the wine-makers; today is your day, the National Wine Day, which is a synthesis of the results of your work. You consolidated our country’s position on the world wine map, defining the Wine of Moldova as one of the most representative Ambassador of Moldova all over the world,’’ Vladimir Bolea said.    

The deputy PM thanked also the European Union, United States, other development partners, which backed Moldova through projects and programmes in the sector, to overcome the crisis imposed by Russia’s embargo and to presently become a leader on the world vine-growing and wine-making market.  

At the same ceremony, the Moldovan leadership nominated the best and the most skillful representatives of the guild, as well as the most advanced wineries and cellars of Moldova.  

More than 100,000 visitors on 7 and 8 October are expected at the National Wine Day. With the slogan, Our Wine Conquers the World, the 2023 year 22nd edition of the holiday marks one decade of success of the Wine of Moldova and brought together about 100 wine-makers, under the umbrella of the Wine of Moldova wine brand.      

The National Wine Day is organized by the National Office of Vine and Wine, Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry, with the support of the strategic partner United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Moldova, through the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity Project.
