EU further supports Moldova in overcoming energy crisis

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - A news briefing today held by President Maia Sandu and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has started with the unveiling of a testimonial, which showed the Moldovans’ gratitude for the European Union’s assistance in the cold season, as well as with the signing of an agreement which will continue this support.
„All our institutions fully work, in order to speed up Moldova’s accession to the European Union. Presently, 60 per cent of the exports go to the European Union. We also appreciate EU’s support for our people to resist in the most difficult period of the year, the cold one, a fact confirmed also by the heroes of the videos you have watched. This extraordinary progress which Moldova is making represents a difficult way together in combating the hybrid attacks and the blackmail,’’ Maia Sandu said.
For her part, Ursula von der Leyen gave assurances that the European Union would support the vulnerable households. ‘’This means lower invoices and a package of measures which will make Moldova more resilient to the challenges of any kind,’’ the president of the European Commission said.
„Last year, we had a complicated winter, with which you coped and we will continue this activity. Moldova shows through all its actions that it deserves to be a full-fledged member of our community,’’ and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also said.
Another 105 million euros meant for the energy vulnerability reduction fund will be disbursed till the end of this year. This is provided for in the Amendment No 2 to the financing agreement between the Moldovan government and the European Commission on the State Building and Resilience Contract for Moldova, signed today by Director General of the Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission Gert Jan Koopman and Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba. These 105 million euros is part of the European Union’s package of assistance worth 250 million euros, announced in 2022.
