Moldovan PM has meeting with European Commission President

Chisinau, 12 October /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s progress in the process of implementation of the European agenda, the main priorities of the government and the financial support of the European Commission, provided to the country for economic development, were the principal subjects discussed at a today’s meeting of Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, on an official visit to Chisinau, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.  

PM Dorin Recean reiterated the priority directions of the cabinet as regards the ensuring of the order and state’s security, justice reform and combating corruption, consolidation of the energy sector and Moldova’s integration into the European Union. A special subject represented the support for the development of the economy through infrastructure projects, construction and repair of bridges, roads and railways.    

„Our priority directions are clear – ensuring the order and state’s security, justice reform, fighting against corruption and strengthening of the energy sector. Our goal stays the integration into the European Union and the support for the infrastructure projects, such as the repair of roads and railways, is essential for achieving our country goal – the European Moldova,’’ the prime minister said. 

European Integration President Ursula von der Leyen reiterated the European Commission’s support for the reforms initiated by the authorities and appreciated Moldova’s aspiration to achieve the European objective.  

„It is impressive for us to see the resilience and resolution with which Moldova goes to the European Union. The results are visible here,’’ the European official noted.

The participants in the discussions appreciated the proposal by the European Commission to increase the financial support for Moldova, in the context of the revision of EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027 and the increase in the financial assistance provided for the consolidation of the country’s energy security.  

Today, in the context of the visit by the European Commission’s head, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba and Director General of the Directorate-General Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission Gert Jan Koopman signed an amendment which provides for the disbursement, till the end of this year, of 105 million euros meant for the energy vulnerability reduction fund.
