Moldovan PM says it is essential that rights of all citizens should be observed

Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - It is essential for the Moldovan society that the rights of all citizens should be observed. Many women are still abused, either physically or verbally. This is not acceptable and cannot be justified through cultural factors, through traditions. Prime Minister Dorin Recean today made statements to this effect at the international conference for the prevention and combating of violence against women and girls and domestic violence. The event is organized by the National Coalition, Life without Violence, for the third year in a row, on 25-26 October.     

According to the PM, we have a lot of work to do as society to change the situation recorded in this respect, through encouraging the women and the community to contribute to the change of the mentality and to the change of culture, through the school curriculum, through the activities we carry out in the community.  

„I want to thank the assertive women, who defend the rights of other women. I also encourage and thank the men who take care of women’s rights, who prevent the violence. The state’s institutions also must keep an eye on the observance of the women’s rights and intervene where there is violence, violence against women, violence against children, domestic violence,’’ the official said.      

The prime minister noted that, through cooperation and commitment between men and women, we can edify a Moldova where the rights of the women are observed and the women are protected from violence and the state’s institutions intervene whenever needed for these rights to be protected.  

The National Coalition, Life without Violence is a national network made up of 21 non-governmental organizations dedicated to the prevention and combating of violence against women, children and the domestic violence.   

The goal of the international conference is to bring together the women’s organizations who know the stories and needs of the women and children who went through abuse, the authorities competent with the protection of women and punishing aggressors, the mass media institutions which have an essential role in the process of education and informing the public, the donors who finance sustainable changes and the entire community which has confidence in a society where the equality between women and men represents a value.
