Chisinau, Nov. 7 /MOLDPRES/- Constitutional Court (CC) rejected the request to suspend the presidential decree, by which former prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo was released from office.
The decision is final, cannot be appealed, enters into force upon adoption and is published in the Official Journal.
On September 26, President Maia Sandu signed a decree on Alexandr Stoianoglo's release from the position of Prosecutor General, under the decision of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) of May 23, 2022.
The presidential institution noted "as rendering a decision by the courts on finding the legality of Alexandr Stoianoglo's release from office by the CSP is delayed, the signing of the decree comes in the context of the EU recommendations to ensure the replacement of the position of Prosecutor General and the obligations of the Republic of Moldova to fulfill the conditions of the justice system".
On May 23 last year, the CSP members decided by most votes to rate Alexandr Stoianolgo's activity as "unsatisfactory" and proposed to the head of state his release from office.
According to the legislation, the performances of the general prosecutor are to be evaluated, and if he gets a failing grade, the CSP will propose his release from office.
