Moldovan president informs about evacuation of 36 Moldova's citizens from Gaza Strip

Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has informed that, after a period full of uncertainty and negotiations, 36 Moldovan citizens from Gaza Strip today were evacuated and were in safety, the presidential press service has reported.    

„Our citizens today crossed the border checkpoint from Rafah and are going to Cairo now. I am grateful to all those who worked tirelessly for this complex process of evacuation: the employees of our embassies from Israel and Turkey, the latter one accredited, by plurality, in Egypt, the team of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry, the colleagues from other institutions involved, as well as our strategic partners, Romania, Ukraine and the United States. Due to this joint effort, our citizens are in safety,’’ President Maia Sandu said.     

The Moldovan president stressed that, at present, the consular employee of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry takes care of the evacuated Moldovan citizens and took them over at the crossing point. They are provided every support needed, including consular assistance and organization of the next stage of their travel to Moldova.    

„From Cairo, our citizens will be carried to Bucharest, along with Romanian citizens, by a special plane organized by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Romania and subsequently they will be taken over by a coach made available by the authorities. I am quite happy that they are in safety. I wish them a good journey and we are waiting them at home,’’ the head of state added.
