Moldovan president receives presidents of Austria, Slovenia on visit to Chisinau

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today in Chisinau welcomed President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen and President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar, the presidential press service has reported.  

„Just one week after the European Commission had recommended the starting of negotiations, the partners from Europe reconfirmed us that Moldova is expected in the great European family. This is a strong gesture, which shows us that we have reliable friends, with the help of whom we protect our democracy, develop the economy and edify Europe here, at home,’’ President Maia Sandu said.     

In discussions, the officials tackled also the situation in Ukraine, which heroically resists the Russian brutal invasion and thus protects the peace in Moldova as well. The Moldovan president called on the entire democratic world to continue backing Ukraine.       

Also, the president of Moldova expressed gratitude for the solidarity of Austria and Slovenia, for the development projects which they finance in Moldova. ‘’We rely on a positive decision of the member states on the starting of the negotiations on accession at the meeting of the European Council due on 14-15 December. Moldova’s accession to EU is our only chance to guarantee the peace, freedom and well-being for the entire country,’’ Maia Sandu noted.
