Academician Ion Tighineanu elected president of Moldova's Academy of Sciences

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - The General Assembly of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) today elected academician Ion Tighineanu to the office of ASM president for a new mandate.
Eighty one members of the Academy voted for Tighineanu out of those 89 ones who voted in all.
In the end of the event, academician Ion Tighineanu thanked for the support and promised that he would carry out his activity programme, set forth to those present at the Assembly.
Moldova’s Academy of Sciences has 37 titular members, 37 corresponding members and 45 PhDs with right to vote.
Academician Ion Tighineanu, a scientist with world fame in the field of nano-technologies, PhD in mathematical and physical sciences, university professor, was born in the Sofia village, Drochia district, on 22 March 1955. He studied at the Electro-Physical Faculty of the Chisinau-based Poly-technical Institute (1972-1974) and afterwards at the Institute of Engineering and Physics from Moscow (1975-1978) and studied for his doctor’s degree at the Lebedev Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1978-1981). In 1982, Tighineanu maintained his thesis of doctor in Moscow and in 1990 – the one of PhD in physical and mathematical sciences at the Institute of Applied Physics of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences. In 1998-2004, he acted as pro-rector at the Moldovan Technical University; in 2012-2018, Tighineanu was first deputy president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and as of 2019 – ASM president. Ion Tighineanu is member of the International Science Council and of the European Academy. He was awarded the Labour Glory Order, the Order of Honour and other distinctions of Moldova and from abroad.
