Mission of Moldovans' evacuation from Gaza Strip finished

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - The operation of evacuation of the Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip was successfully finished today with the return of those eight citizens evacuated. During October-November, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) carried out, in partnership with other relevant institutions, a complex operation of evacuation and repatriation of the Moldovan citizens from the Gaza Strip to Moldova, the MAEIE press service has reported.    

Ever since the unleashing of the war in the State of Israel, MAEIE has strengthened the consular presence, both in Israel and in Egypt and Moldova’s Embassy in Tel Aviv maintained a constant communication with the citizens who asked for the evacuation.    

„I want to express sincere thanks to the colleagues from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, especially the head of the crisis cell, MAEIE’s Secretary General Mihai Mitu, as well as the teams of our Embassies in Israel and Turkey (accredited by plurality in Egypt). Also, we appreciate the full involvement of MAEIE’s Consular Affairs Directorate, especially the contribution of the consular employee, Nicolae Cojuhari, detached to Egypt, for the support provided to our citizens following the leaving of the Gaza Strip. I offer special thanks also the state’s institutions, such as the Interior Ministry, Border Police, General Inspectorate for Migration, Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the International Organization for Migration, for the support provided in this operation of evacuation,’’ Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu said.            

The success of this complex mission is due also to the joint efforts and the international support, inclusively on behalf of Israel, Egypt, Romania, Ukraine, USA, Turkey and Qatar. Due to the efficient cooperation, we succeeded in the quick and safe evacuation of all those who asked for this. Fifty three Moldovan citizens successfully arrived in Moldova, including those eight who returned today, through a flight facilitated by the HiSky air company, for which we offer sincere thanks.
