Runoff election held in 273 localities in Moldova today

Chisinau, Nov. 19 /MOLDPRES/- Runoff election is taking place in 273 localities in the country today. At the same time, repeated elections are organized in eight other localities: in six for the position of mayor and local councilor, and in two localities only for the position of local councillor. The polling stations were opened at 07:00 and will close at 21:00.

In the localities where the runoff election is held, 544 people are running for mayor.

Two candidates are entered on the ballot, those who have accumulated the largest number of votes in the first round of the elections. Exceptions are the village of Cotova, Drochia district, and Todirești village, Ungheni district, where only one candidate is listed on the ballot.

According to data from the Central Electoral Commission, 828,557 ballots were printed for the runoff election.

In the first round of the general local elections, held on November 5, 623 mayors were elected, who picked up more than half of the validly cast votes.
