Central Electoral Commission: elections declared valid in 178 settlements of Moldova

Chisinau, 19 November /MOLDPRES/ - The elections have been declared valid in 178 settlements of Moldova, as the voter turnout reached 20 per cent out of all people registered in the electoral lists. The president of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Angelica Caraman, unveiled information to this effect at a news briefing.    

According to the CEC leadership, about 160,000 voters or around 19 per cent out of all citizens with right to vote, registered in the electoral lists, exercised their right to vote till 13:00.  

„The electoral process is carried out as usual. The settlement with the highest voter turnout is Corjova, Dubasari district, where a voter turnout of 41 per cent is recorded. The settlement with the lowest voter turnout is Salcia, Taraclia district, where only 2.5 per cent of the electors came to vote. About 16 per cent of the electors from those eight settlements of the Chisinau municipality voted till 13:00. The most active citizens are from the Vadul lui Voda town, where about 25 per cent of the electors voted. The Bubuieci commune is at the opposite pole, with less than 13 per cent of the electors voting there. A voter turnout of about 12 per cent was registered in the Balti city. Over 18 per cent of the electors voted in the Comrat city of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. At the same time, we have a polling station where the voters ruled not to participate in the ballot; it is about the Chioselia Rusa settlement from UTA Gagauzia, where no person has participated in the voting so far,’’ Angelica Caraman said.     

Also, till 13:00, law-enforcers registered 23 infringements or incidents which regard the electoral process. ‘’It is about seven cases concerning the banned electoral agitation, five cases of organized carriage of voters, two situations of reasonable suspicion of corrupting voters, three cases of photographing the ballot paper, six cases regarding infringements of the electoral process. In the context, we repeatedly draw attention to the need to observe the legal norms as to the electoral agitation, which is strictly forbidden today,’’ Angelica Caraman noted.   

The runoff election of the general local polls is held in 273 settlements of Moldova today. As many as 839,239 people are expected to come to vote in all. The first preliminary data on the results of the elections will be presented at 22:00.
