Chisinau, Nov. 21 /MOLDPRES/- Moldova will benefit from financial support from the EU through the LIFE programme in 2025-2027. This was discussed at the 4th meeting of the LIFE Programme Committee, in Brussels. It was organized by the European Commission. It aimed at discussing the implementation of the multiannual work program for 2025-2027.

"Moldova is engaged in the European integration, integration into the great European family being the priority objective, and the opportunity to initiate accession negotiations further confirms the openness of the European Union to this end. The LIFE programme represents an important step for the development of environmental projects in Moldova, and although we have recently obtained the status of a member of the program, we are happy to already benefit from a first winning project that will be financed from the financial sources of one of the largest European programs ", Environmental Projects National Implementation Office (ONIPM) director Nicolae Arnaut said.

During the meeting in Brussels, the ONIPM official also held bilateral dialogues with partners of the Ministries of Environment of Italy and Spain, who are leaders in the LIFE Programme, regarding the exchange of best practices in funding instruments. He also had a meeting with representatives of the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The discussions concerned the organization of an information session for our country - Info Days for Moldova.

The LIFE programme is the EU funding instrument for the environment and climate action - the only EU programme entirely dedicated to the environment. It contributes to the shift towards a sustainable and efficient economy, based on renewable energy sources and the principles of the circular economy, as well as on protecting nature, improving air and water quality, including the intensification of wastewater treatment.

The total budget of the LIFE programme for 2021-2027 is 5.4 billion euros, and about one million euros will be offered to the Republic of Moldova and partners in Greece for the implementation of the project on birds and habitats, the Natura 2000 network in Ukraine and Moldova, based on the current Emerald common network of sites, in accordance with the Berne Convention, a project due to be implemented over two years.
