Moldovan Central Electoral Commission establishes date of runoff election of general local polls in south Moldova village

Chisinau, 22 November /MOLDPRES/ - The runoff election of the general local polls for the mayor office will take place in the Aluatu village, southern Taraclia district. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) today approved a decision to this effect. Also today, CEC established the date of the summoning of the first meeting of the Balti municipal council and of district councils.
According to CEC, the repeated voting for the position of mayor was held in the Aluatu village on 19 November 2023. According to the preliminary results, no candidate for the mayor office picked up more than a half of the number of the validly expressed votes by the electors who participated in the ballot.
Under the electoral legislation, in these conditions, the runoff election of the general local polls is organized in two weeks, with the candidates who got the largest number of votes in the first round of the elections. The voting in the runoff election will be held based on the electoral lists from the first round of the ballot.
Also, the CEC members established the date of the summoning of the first meeting of the Balti municipal council and of several district councils. Thus, the councilors of the Balti municipal council and the Cahul district council will convene at a meeting on 23 November 2023. At the same time, the councilors of the Causeni district council will hold a meeting on 24 November 2023. On 27 November 2023, the Floresti and Stefan Voda district councils will hold meetings.
According to the provisions of the legal framework, the meeting of the council is deliberative, if at least two thirds of the local councilors participate in it. The participants in the foundation meeting discuss only subjects on bringing to the knowledge by the representative of the electoral body of the decision on the assigning of councilor mandates, starting the creation of factions, alliances, blocs, initiating the setting up of specialty consultative commissions.
