Chisinau, 24 November /MOLDPRES/ - The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (PA) will investigate the cases of high-level corruption. The parliament today adopted a draft law to this effect in the second reading.
The document sees the amendment of the Criminal Procedure Code, so that PA is empowered to investigate the corruption offences committed by high-level civil servants. More exactly, it is about the offences committed by the people whose way of appointment or election is regulated by Moldova’s Constitution or who are sworn in office through appointment or election by the parliament, Moldovan president or government, except for the mayors, deputy mayors and local councilors. Among the people concerned by these legislative amendments, there is the Moldovan president, MPs, ministers, prosecutors, judges, heads of the central administrative authorities or of the institutions subordinated to the government and parliament, etc.
The document’s author also proposes that the procedural norms which regulate the competence of the criminal prosecution body should enter into force on 31 March 2024.
