Romanian parliament adopts resolution on European perspective of Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Western Balkans

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - The reunited plenum of the two chambers of the Romanian parliament today adopted, by majority vote, a resolution on the European perspective of Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and the Western Balkans, MOLDPRES informs, citing AGERPRES.        

Through this resolution, the parliament of Romania reiterates its full support for the advancement of the European integration of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia. At the same time, the Romanian legislative body backs the adoption of a positive decision by the European Council on the opening of the negotiations on accession to EU with Moldova and Ukraine, taking into account ‘’the clear-cut and substantial efforts and progress registered by the two states in the implementation of the recommendations ‘’ of the European Commission, as well as the EU’s commitment to support these countries on the European integration way.   

At the same time, the Romanian parliament stressed the need of an enhanced commitment on behalf of EU for ensuring the peace, stability and security in the Eastern neighbourhood, as well as in order to ‘’develop all dimensions of connectivity of the states from the region.’’ with the European Union.  

According to the resolution, the parliament reiterates its willingness to cooperate and provide support to the parliaments of the candidate states and potential candidates, in order to advance the accession processes. The text of the resolution invokes the right of any sovereign state to decide on its foreign policy and the security arrangements fitting its national interests.
