Mayors' Forum held in Chisinau

Chisinau, Dec. 9 /MOLDPRES/- Mayors' Forum is being held in Chisinau today. It includes two discussion sessions with representatives of the government, the parliament and experts of the associative environment. The event was opened by the head of state who came with a message for the mayors and asked the Executive to raise the salaries of local representatives.

Maia Sandu reviewed the actions taken by the authorities recently and announced that she will ask the government to find resources to increase the salaries of the mayors. She urged local representatives to work to bring prosperity to their communities.

"You, the local representatives are at the forefront of the residents' needs. You carry on your shoulders day by day the fulfillment of the most urgent and natural concerns of the people. Being a mayor means simultaneously being a social worker, and a jurist, and an engineer, and a lawyer, and a friend to every member of the community, and sometimes a parent, son or daughter to those left alone. It is a job that requires not only skills, but also commitment. The most important quality to be a good leader is to be human. A man who truly cares about the citizens of his community, who will find solutions, look for projects and solve community problems together. Citizens need human mayors and not chief mayors", Sandu said.

The discussions will focus on the development of localities in the process of accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, funds for regional development and opportunities for communities.

The event is organized by the government in collaboration with the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, under the auspices of President Maia Sandu.
