Chisinau, Dec. 9 /MOLDPRES/- Today head of state discussed with over 700 representatives of the local public administration, present at the Mayors' Forum, about the importance of partnership between all levels of administration. The president said that only through joint effort can the localities be developed, and Moldova can advance decisively on the European path, the presidential press service has reported.
"This autumn, over 1,200,000 people went out to vote hoping that the 895 mayors, together with the local councilors, will work to build villages and cities in where we like to live and of which we can be proud. Three years ago, we promised to mobilize greater internal and external resources to finance projects in the localities, and we kept our word," said the president.
The official noted that 496 projects were financed throughout the country through the European Village Program, worth 1.8 billion lei. "The results of these investments can be seen, whether we are referring to projects related to water supply and sewage, thermal insulation of buildings, increasing tourist attractiveness or economic infrastructure development. We requested the Government to launch the call for European Village 2 as soon as possible," Maia Sandu said.
At the same time, the president noted that the Republic of Moldova is in a historic moment and there is no time to lose: "Citizens from all localities are waiting for Europe at home and demand that our villages and cities have living conditions like in towns in the EU. We must join our efforts to fulfill this desire and, I assure you, the central authorities will continue to be with the mayors who work for the people".
