UN Women's activity in Moldova to be facilitated

Chisinau, Dec. 13 /MOLDPRES/- UN Women's activity in Moldova will be facilitated. Members of the parliamentary committee on foreign policy and European integration approved today the opinion on initiation of negotiations and approval of the signing of the Agreement between the Moldovan government and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women).

According to the authorities, the document aims to facilitate the activity of UN Women in Moldova. A relevant legal framework for the provision of development assistance will be set up. This will contribute to the implementation of the policies and commitments assumed by the government, including at the international level, in ensuring gender equality, economic empowerment of women, preventing and combating gender-based violence and domestic violence.

The UN Women aims at promoting the equality and empowerment of women around the world. It supports the efforts of UN member states in creating global standards on gender equality and cooperates with governments and civil society to help them develop laws, policies, programs and services that will enable the effective application of these standards.
