Moldovan president says decision on starting of negotiations for Moldova's accession to EU everybody's victory

Chisinau, 14 December /MOLDPRES/ - The today’s decision on the starting of the negotiations for Moldova’s accession to the European Union is everybody’s victory. President Maia Sandu has conveyed a message to this effect.   

The official addressed a congratulatory message to all citizens. ‘’Dear Moldovans, congratulations! Twenty seven European Union heads of state and government said ‘’yes’’ for our country, said ‘’yes’’ to our European future. This is a new page in our history. Two years ago, nobody imagined that, in 2023, the European Commission would propose the starting of the negotiations on accession with Moldova,’’ Maia Sandu said.   

The head of state noted that the today’s success was the merit of the entire society. ‘’This is the success of all those who choose the democracy and prosperity, who work with perseverance and patience, who came to vote, who protested for freedom and never ceased to believe that Moldova deserves more. We are Europeans and this fact is recognized by the entire EU,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The European Council today voted for the starting of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. The decision comes after, on 8 November 2023, the European Commission recommended that the European Union member countries initiate the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.
