Chisinau, 11 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- The Russian Federation has banned access to its territory for 12 citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The ban targets officials and journalists.
The list was handed yesterday to Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Moscow Lilian Darii, who was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A note of protest was sent to the diplomat in connection with the "unfriendly actions of Chisinau officials".
Igor Zaharov, the communication advisor to Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu said that the decision of the Russian Federation is a regrettable one. "It is important to note that such measures are already becoming commonplace in the agenda of the Russian authorities. Despite this fact, the Republic of Moldova maintains its firm commitment to counteracting external interference and any destabilizing actions towards our security and sovereignty", said Igor Zaharov.
Previously, other Moldovan officials were also declared undesirable on the territory of Russia.
