Parliament could convene in extraordinary session this week

Chisinau, 16 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- Standing bureau will consider the request to convene the Parliament in an extraordinary session on January 17-18, 2024.
According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, the initiative to convene the Parliament in an extraordinary session is motivated by the need to urgently promote a lot of normative acts that regulate issues related to the evaluation of institutional integrity, reform in justice, electoral legislation and political parties.
"Speaker Igor Grosu's request sees the need to examine some draft normative acts of socio-economic and political importance for the Republic of Moldova, which are to be adopted and applied urgently ", the statement also says.
The draft agenda for the extraordinary session of the Parliament is to be approved by the standing bureau today.
According to the parliament's Regulations, if the parliament is not in ordinary session, it can meet in extraordinary or special sessions, at the request of the president, speaker or one third of MPs. The Parliament meets in two ordinary sessions per year. The spring session begins in February and cannot exceed the end of July. The autumn session starts in September and cannot exceed the end of December.
