Moldovan MPs to convene at extraordinary session this week

Chisinau, 16 January /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament is summoned to an extraordinary session on 17-18 January 2024. The standing bureau approved a decision on the parliament’s summoning, at a request by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
Thus, the lawmakers will consider draft normative acts on the assessment of the institutional integrity, reform in the justice sector, of the electoral legislation and the political parties.
The parliament is to reexamine the draft law which envisages the improvement of the electoral process, as well as the ensuring of the transparency and fairness in the holding of the elections. Also, the MPs will approve, in the second reading, amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor’s Office and the Law on the evaluation of the institutional integrity. In the final reading, the lawmakers will discuss the legislative initiative aimed at consolidating the capacities of the National Justice Institute and of the powers of the institution’s unattached students. The parliament will consider also the amendment of the national register of the public forum monuments.
On 18 January, the MPs will convene at a plenary meeting starting from 11:00.
Under the parliament’s regulation, if the parliament is not in ordinary session, it can be summoned to extraordinary or special sessions at a request by Moldova’s president, parliament speaker or one third of the lawmakers.
