Moldovan president meets United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

Chisinau, 19 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu met today with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi, on a visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu expressed gratitude for the support offered by UNHCR in managing the humanitarian crisis, with the start of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
The president said that despite limited resources, Moldova has firmly demonstrated its solidarity with Ukrainian citizens seeking refuge in our country. As the war in the neighboring country drags on, the head of state reiterated her commitment to the temporary protection of refugees, according to European standards.
Maia Sandu also emphasized the importance of supporting the Republic of Moldova, which is essential both for the integration of Ukrainian citizens into Moldovan society, including the labor market and the educational system, as well as for the continuation of modernization efforts, economic development and accession to European Union.
